Tommy Tuberville defeated former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions in the Alabama Republican primary runoff on Tuesday night, securing the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.
Tuberville carried 64 of Alabama’s 67 counties and attributed his success to President Trump’s support and the state’s desire for a political outsider.
“I don’t need this job. I want it,” Tuberville said in his victory address to supporters.
“I’ve got more energy now than I’ve had in the last 20 years, and I’m excited about helping the people of Alabama. That’s what this about.”
Tuberville will face Democratic incumbent Sen. Doug Jones in the general election on Nov. 3.
